JAPAN PARADE
We’re thrilled to announce that the “Japan Parade Art Contest 2022” application is now open. It’s time to show us your ideas and creativity!
Japan Day Art Contest began in 2012 when we first invited the public to submit artwork to create our official posters, flyers, and programs. The contest was such a success which resulted in so many splendid entries of artwork. Therefore, we decided to make the art contest an important element of Japan Day @ Central Park. This year marks the 10th annual Art Contest as well as the first-ever Japan Parade Art Contest.
About “Japan Parade”
Japan Day @ Central Park is an annual event celebrating Japanese culture, art, and tradition in Central Park since 2007. In 2022, Japan Day is organizing the first-ever Japan Parade in New York City on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
The year 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the visit of the Japanese mission led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Iwakura Tomomi in 1872. The Iwakura Mission’s visit led to the remarkable development of Japan-US relations including the establishment of the Consulate of Japan in New York in the same year. The purpose of the Japan Parade is to promote the country’s culture and the Japan-US friendship in a new way on this milestone anniversary to hand over the baton to the next generation.
