Japan Day 2010 Application Overview for Food, Tent Activities, Performers, and Supporting Organizations


We are looking for people who support our mission, and want to take part in this exciting event, Japan Day 2010.
Please note that everything you contribute to Japan day will be on a volunteer basis.
Our Mission:
  • Build bridges of cultural understanding between the people of Japan and the U.S.
  • Show the local Japanese community’s appreciation toward their home city, Ney York.
  • Facilitate a stronger connection between Japanese local communities.
  • Participants are needed in the following areas:
    1. Food Tents
    2. Activity Tents
    3. Performers
    4. Supporting Organizations
    1. Food Tents To qualify, applicants must:
    1. Be able to provide approximately 2,000 meals for distribution.
    2. Be able to bring your own tools/equipment that are also suitable for Park Regulations. (no uncooked food, no cooking over open flame, and electronic cooking only, with the exception of microwave ovens. The space and location will be determined by the Park administration. ) A freezer truck will be available.
    3. Be able to provide a tent manager as well as providing at least half the number of staff you will need.
    2. Activity Tents
    To qualify, applicants must:
    1. Provide activities that are easy to actively participate in.
    2. Be able to supply goods or materials needed for the participation of more than 500 people.
    3. Insure that all elements and materials used in the tent and activity are suitable for use in the Park. (Important note: please be aware that there are no electrical outlets in the Park. The space and location will be determined by the Park administration.)
    4. Be able to provide a tent manager as well as providing at least half number of staff you need.
      (l.e. calligraphy, Origami, Yo-yofishing etc.)
    3. Performers To qualify, applicants must:
    1. Have more than 5 years performing experience either individually or as a group.
    2. Have performed in public at least 3 times, either individually or as a group.
    3. Be able to provide supporting materials mentioned in the application form. (Please meet the applications deadline)
    4. Be able to manage the length of performance as well as a number of participants. (I.e. Martial Arts, Music performance with Japanese traditional instruments, Dance, and etc.)
    4. Supporting Organizations To qualify, applicants must:
    1. Be able to support Japan Day preparations and activities.
    2. Be able to secure staff members and manage them, giving them tasks appropriate to their abilities.
      (l.e. Site cleaning, help in calling for volunteers, and etc.)
    How to apply: Fill out the appropriate application for your category. Performers please send all supporting materials as well as Material Agreement by the deadline (Sorry, they cannot be returned). Those who are selected are required to submit the Release and Waiver of Liability by Friday, April 30th, 2010.
